Packing materials are selected according to the item being moved, its fragility, surface sensitivity, weight, shape and the expected transit conditions. Using the same material for every item is rarely appropriate.
Common categories
| Cartons | Used for many household, office and general goods. |
|---|---|
| Cushioning material | Helps reduce shock and movement around fragile items. |
| Wrapping material | Protects surfaces and helps keep grouped items together. |
| Edge/corner protection | Useful for selected furniture, frames and vulnerable edges. |
| Tape and labels | Secure packages and identify rooms, contents or handling instructions. |
Material choice should follow the inventory
A detailed moving inventory makes it easier to decide which items need ordinary cartons, additional cushioning, stronger protection or separate handling.
